Borescope HQ: Content Hub For Borescope Cameras

When you look online for information on borescope cameras, there isn’t much to go by. You’ll find countless items for sale, a certain number of videos focused on visual listeners, and a gallery of images where each picture pretty much looks the same. What you will struggle to find is a content hub dedicated to borescopes alone, a place where different products are explored and where articles are written for guidance and general knowledge. So I decided to create one, and this site was born.

A Little Introduction

For those who are unsure, put simply, a borescope inspection camera is a device that allows you to look into places that are hard to reach. For example, down a kitchen pipe to look for basic blockages, or in engines to find a fault. It’s a handy piece of kit that saves time & money on jobs because the alternative would be to dismantle the pipe or engine (or whatever you were investigating). So you can see why they have become popular over time – they can save you hours of time.

The borescope consists of a camera probe which is attached to a cable, and normally comes with a LCD display monitor which allows you to view images in real time. Some models record video & capture images which can be used for later. Cables can come in rigid, semi-rigid or snake form, making them useful for different tasks. Certain models allow you to attach your mobile phone to the borescope.

Different brands out there have different camera probe sizes such as 4mm, 6mm, 8mm and so on. Built-in LED lights are also popular, allowing you to brighten up dark areas as you explore. And many models are also waterproof, making them great for DIY jobs at home or work. Then you have different articulation types (we discuss this in more detail throughout this site).

Despite them looking a bit odd and complicated, borescopes are fairly easy to use. The articulating borescopes might take a little bit of getting used to, but like most things in life, the little learning curve will benefit you in the long run.

A Deeper Look

There are a few things I want to discuss and mention. There seems to be a bit of confusion between borescopes and endoscopes. Both are built to inspect internal areas, but the endoscope is used in the medical field to look inside the body. Borescopes, on the other hand, are used for engine inspections, basic plumbing & drainage, checking wires, inspecting turbines, looking into machinery etc. So that is the difference between them.

A borescope inspection camera is great for diagnosing a number of things such as the internal state of plumbing pipes, causes of surface blockages in drains (basic, use a sewer camera for deeper inspections), corrosion & rust, lodged foreign objects, location of leaks and tears, mould buildup, faulty wires, state of engines, insect infestations, and many other things. So these are reasons why individuals and businesses use them.

Another common question people have is how do they use a borescope? Assuming it is just a standard model with a LCD display, the steps for using it are pretty simple. Ensure the battery is fully charged and turn the device on. Then insert the camera probe (attached to the cable) into the area you want to inspect. Make use of the LED lights and the different brightness levels to get a better image. Navigate the probe to the area you want to check and watch the live video feed on the display. Take videos and images (if this feature is available) and use the articulating feature (if the borescope has it) to view different angles. That is the basics of using one. Of course, some models will support mobile phones or have extra features.

Product Guides & Knowledge Base

This is a basic summary of borescope cameras, and in our knowledge base and product guide sections we go into much more detail. A good starting point is to check out the articles in our knowledge base section first to get a further insight into the world of borescopes, and then explore the various product guides we have written on different borescopes, use cases, brands, best picks etc if you are looking to get one.

We hope you find the content on this site useful, and it serves as a content hub for avid readers or those looking for the best borescope camera for home, office, work, automotive or industrial use.
